Questions about Northwatch, AI and automation

Technology should earn your trust. These answers explain what Northwatch automates, where people stay in control, how diagnostic information is handled and what to expect when you need help.

AI and automation

Northwatch uses automation to reduce repetitive work and AI to help interpret evidence. Neither replaces authorization, professional judgment or accountability.

Is AI making decisions about my systems on its own?

No. AI can organize diagnostic evidence, identify patterns and draft recommendations. Server-side policy, customer permissions and explicit approvals remain authoritative. Generated text is not treated as permission to change a system.

Can Northwatch automation make changes without my approval?

Ordinary diagnostics collect authorized evidence; they are not a general remote-control shell. When a service offers a proposed Fix-IT action, the evidence, exact repair, rollback and risk information must be reviewed through the approval workflow before any separately supported execution step.

What happens when the AI is wrong or uncertain?

AI can be incomplete or mistaken. Northwatch keeps the supporting evidence visible, validates required report structure and reports failures instead of inventing certainty. Recommendations should be reviewed in context, especially before making a material change.

Does automation replace my IT staff or service provider?

No. It gives people faster collection, consistent checks and clearer evidence so they can spend less time on repetitive work. Your authorized staff or provider still owns business context, priorities and final decisions.

What if the AI service is temporarily unavailable?

The portal distinguishes collection progress, queued analysis, completed work and failures. Work is bounded and recoverable rather than silently reported as complete. If a report cannot be produced, the failure remains visible and support can help determine the next step.

Data, privacy and security

Our design starts with customer isolation, least privilege and collecting only the evidence needed for authorized work.

What information does Northwatch collect?

Collection depends on the diagnostic tier and the work you authorize. It may include system health, configuration, event and software evidence needed to explain a finding. The report identifies its evidence and limitations instead of claiming access Northwatch did not have.

Is diagnostic information sent directly from my browser to an AI provider?

No. The browser communicates with the authenticated Northwatch application. Server-owned workflows validate authorization, scope and evidence before any configured analysis provider is called; the browser does not connect directly to provider infrastructure.

How is customer information separated?

Accounts, machines, reports, approvals and operational evidence are scoped through authenticated customer and workspace boundaries. A signed-in user sees only the resources their current Northwatch relationship authorizes.

Does Northwatch expose passwords, private keys or other secrets in reports?

The product is designed to avoid collecting secrets as diagnostic evidence and to redact sensitive values at its boundaries. No automated system can make careless input safe, so customers should still avoid placing credentials or private material in free-form support or approval notes.

Using Northwatch

What can I do in the customer portal?

Available tools depend on your services and role. The portal can provide authenticated access to managed machines, diagnostics, reports, approvals, Portable activity, billing and support information from one customer-isolated workspace.

What is Northwatch Portable?

Northwatch Portable is a licensed USB-based diagnostic option for authorized work on a connected Windows computer. The server validates the device and session, authorizes the selected tier and returns the resulting report to the owning account.

Who can approve a Fix-IT request?

Only an authenticated user with the required customer and administrative authorization can approve or reject a request. Notification email is a prompt to review the request; replying to an email does not authorize execution.

How do I get help or discuss a concern before using automation?

Contact Northwatch before authorizing work if you need clarification about scope, evidence, privacy or operational impact. We would rather explain a boundary clearly than ask you to trust a black box. Visit Support to start the conversation.
